On July 1, 2008, the state of Utah joined the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network, or CoCoRaHS. CoCoRaHS is a network of volunteer observers of all ages who are willing to measure rain, hail and snow and report their measurements to the network through their website. For more information visit the website at  www.cocorahs.org or click here or view Frequently Asked Questions here.

CoCoRaHS is looking for volunteer observers in all areas of Millard County and the state of Utah. If you would like to become a volunteer observer, click the "Join CoCoRaHS" link in the main menu area on the left side of the CoCoRaHS website home page and complete the online application.

Some basic requirements to become a volunteer observer are:

(1) Have an interest in observing the weather and taking precipitation measurements.

(2) Have access to the internet and the ability to browse the CoCoRaHS website, which is where you will enter your daily precipitation data. Be willing to enter your precipitation data on a daily basis between 6-9AM.

(3) Have an official-type CoCoRaHS rain gauge. You can buy one inexpensively here, or contact your local coordinator.

(4) Have a good site on your property with good exposure (as tree and obstruction free as possible) where you can place the rain gauge about five feet off the ground.

(5) Attend a training session (if available) or view the online "Training Slide Show" found on the CoCoRaHS home page.
